Unit 5B. Planes

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Hi, there!

Well, yesterday we learnt some new vocabulary about air travel and we listened to some conversations at the airport. Here you have 3 exercises to learn more vocabulary on this area.

We also learnt how to make polite requests with the right intonation. Check this website and learn more about it. Then, do exercises 1, 2, 3, and 4. Again, this is particularly important because it's usually included in the oral exam tasks.

Extra listening:
Could you do me a favour?

Finally, did you know that today is Pancake Day in UK? Check this site where you can learn everything about this festivity. And if you want to make pancakes at home, watch this video for the recipe:

Enjoy the meal!

Unit 5A. Tourist trail

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Hi, guys!

Yesterday we practised a True/False listening exercise with three real conversations, and you told me they were really difficult to understand. Well, here you have the possibility of listening to them over and over again until you get to understand them: (see transcripts here)

Conversation 1:

Download it from here (right-click --botón derecho del ratón-- and  choose 'guardar destino/enlace como')

Conversation 3:

Download it from here (right-click --botón derecho del ratón-- and  choose 'guardar destino/enlace como')

I also told you to practise the writing task with this worksheet, which includes the answer key to the exercises.

Finally, we started unit 5 by studying how to talk about plans in English. Now, watch this funny video:

Exercises about the video here: 1, 2, 3

Extra grammar work:
Going to/present continuous 1
Going to/present continuous 2

Extra listening:
What are your plans for tonight?

For homework tomorrow, please do ex. 2 and 3, p 46 of your Student's book and the exercises on this worksheet. And remember that tomorrow is the last day to hand in or send your formal e-mail!

Cheers!

Download the Oprah Winfrey audio file here (mp3) (Right-click (usa el botón derecho del ratón) and choose "Guardar destino como" if you are using Internet Explorer or "Guardar enlace como" for Mozilla Firefox.

If you keep practising with listenings, try Listen A Minute.com, a superb site where you can listen to recordings which are one minute long and also read the transcripts.

And finally, check the oral list for tomorrow's class. There is still room for more students, so find a time that is free and I'll practise the speaking with you! Remember to revise the invitations/suggestions vocabulary.

That's all for now.
Bye!
